Christmas Champions





I went to see 'The Christmas Champions' last night, Chris Wood and Hugh Lupton's production of the old Christmas mummers plays. Currently on tour it was performed without Hugh Lupton who was ill. But Chris Wood and the other musicians presented a magical evening recreating these old plays of the Turkish Knight coming from the East to kill Boldslasher and the Doctor with his magic drops bringing him alive again. Although set as a 'Christmas' occasion, complete with folk-song versions of carols alongside wassails and drinking songs, the death and rebirth theme for Solstice clearly emerged from the production.
